7 Foods to Eat For Glowing Skin

It’s no secret that what we eat directly impacts our skin. Before we go any further, please note that this is NOT an article about how we should all just eat veggies and never eat sweets again. My hope is for you to become equipped with the best foods to eat for naturally glowing skin so that you can create balance in what you eat, and understand how food impacts your skin.

It is important to note when eating for skin health, you should prioritize foods that contain vitamins A, C, E and D, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. Be sure to also read all the way through for foods that support a more radiant complexion by skin type.

Bowl of berries, superfood for naturally glowing skin

1 —

Leafy greens like spinach and kale to protect the skin barrier and even out skin tone.

This may be obvious but eating your greens is the key to feeling good inside and out. Spinach, kale and even collard greens are rich in vitamin K, which helps improve blood circulation (buh-bye dark under eye circles). Plus spinach has loads of zinc, which has been shown to reduce inflammation and prevent acne breakouts.

2 —

Papaya keeps the skin vibrant and healthy.

Just a single cup of papaya has 144% of the daily value of collagen-boosting vitamin C, which aids in keeping the skin vibrant and wrinkle free.

3 —

Salmon supports collagen production, among other whole body benefits like supporting overall heart health.

Keeping salmon in your meal rotation at least twice per week is recommended by the American Heart Association because it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This has great benefits to your body because it supports a lower overall blood pressure, but your skin will thank you as well because of the increased collagen production.

4 —

Avocados support healthy skin cell function.

Particularly if you have dry skin, avocados can add a natural glow, thanks to it being a healthy fat that is rich in vitamin E. Avocados might also support a more hydrated complexion and balanced skin barrier if you are struggling with dehydrated skin.

5 —

Sweet potatoes balance oily skin.

Sweet potatoes contain high levels of Vitamin A, which has been shown to help reduce oil production in the skin. Containing compounds called carotenoids that give them their color, just half of a cooked sweet potato will give you all the beauty benefits. In fact, a recent study showed that those who consumed more red and orange vegetables had more of a sunkissed glow than those who didn’t.

6 —

Bell peppers and berries can reduce dark spots caused by hyperpigmentation.

Dark spots on the skin are caused by extra pigment production from UV light exposure. If you want a more balanced, healthy complexion, try snacking on bell peppers or berries (depending on your spicy to sweet snack preferences). Both are rich in vitamin C and can help even out the skin tone.

7 —

Almonds help repair scarred skin cells and defend against sun damage.

Not only are almonds one of the best sources of dairy-free calcium, almonds are rich in vitamin E, which can heal the skin from scars and protect it from damaging UV rays. The suggested intake is about 20 almonds per day, so add this superfood to your snack rotation and your skin will thank you!
