How to Create a Self-Care Routine that Fits into Your Busy Schedule
Self care isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. And while it takes on many forms, from spa days and pedicures to journaling and even working out, one thing is clear: no matter how busy you are, there is always time for self care. Not convinced? Keep reading for three easy steps you can always use to be intentional in your self care routine.
Step 1 —
Tune in to what you need.
Self care is not one size fits all. Depending on the season, where you are in your life, the type of week you’ve had, you should always tailor your self care routine to fit you. And that requires you to tune in to what you need in the moment. There are times when all I need are a bubble bath, chocolate and a good book, and I’m good to go. There are other times when I have been sitting in front of a computer all day and I just need five minutes outside and a few deep breaths.
And still, there are other times when I find myself getting impatient or playing the comparison game when I realize I haven’t spent time praying and connecting with my true, inner self. The point is that self care can and should look different in every season and sometimes even every day, so always check in with yourself to stay in touch with what you need.
Step 2 —
Stop making excuses.
You’re not too busy and there is enough time. Period. Even if you only have a few minutes to yourself in the bathroom before being interrupted by little ones knocking on the door, or if you’re working long days that turn into evenings all too quickly, you still have time. The mindset around self care has been that it always has to be this elaborate routine when really, self care can be as simple as doing some deep breathing exercises, saying affirmations, or even going for a walk. The key is that your mindset has to change if you always think you’re too busy.
Step 3 —
Commit to making self care a daily habit.
As women, our nature is to nurture everyone else, and sometimes that causes us to put ourselves at the bottom of the list. Let’s stop that right now. We can only be who we need to be if we take the time out to take care of ourselves. Self care is about you. Your health, your mindset, your healing, your growth, your next level in life: they all depend on you being the best version of yourself. And that all starts with you making a commitment and honoring it.
