How to Love Yourself Inside and Out

Loving yourself is a journey that can look different in every season. No matter where you find yourself in life, here are 10 practical ways to make self love a habit.

1 —

Spend time unplugged to understand your true worth.

Constantly scrolling on social media can be a huge distraction and also spark feelings of comparison or inferiority. If you find yourself struggling to be grateful for your own journey, or spending way too much time constantly scrolling, you may need to set boundaries on your social media usage. Schedule unplugged time each week to journal. Some journal prompts include: writing out a list of things that make you unique and practicing gratitude for them, writing a letter of encouragement to yourself, or even writing down your prayers.

2 —

Make a habit of learning.

Whether it’s committing to reading for thirty minute per day, learning a new recipe, brushing up on your professional skills, or some combination of all the three, having a learning mindset means you are committed to growth.

3 —

Eat foods that are good for you.

Your body is your temple, and what you eat will determine your ability to focus, impact how you feel and even the quality of your sleep.

Remember: food is fuel. The more you make a habit of eating fruits and veggies , the more your body (and skin) will thank you for it. Set a goal to eat something green at least once each day and watch how much of a difference it makes.

4 —

Drink more water.

It will seriously make your life stress free and your skin clear if you prioritize drinking water. Starting the day with water can make it easier to choose water throughout the day, so be sure to drink water first - before having tea, juice or coffee.

5 —

Fix your thoughts on what is encouraging.

If you notice yourself feeling grumpy or irritable, check your thoughts. What are you thinking about yourself? How are you talking to yourself in your thoughts? What you think, you become, so block those negative thoughts and constantly encourage and uplift yourself in your thought processes. This takes a daily practice and intentionally checking in with yourself throughout the day.

6 —

Remember to get active.

Your body is a temple and she is made just for you! Take care of her and she will take care of you. No matter your age or stage in life, you can get up and get moving. Start where you are and build. If you haven’t worked out in a while, start by walking. You could also stretch throughout the day, march around the house or use a standing desk if you’re working from home to easily be able to move around. Once you make a habit of being active, your body will feel better and you will look forward to that time of release.

7 —

Choose faith over fear.

Challenges, circumstances, and situations that don’t go as planned are a part of life. Instead of choosing to worry or feel anxious about something or someone that you can’t control, choose to be confident in the fact that you are who you are for a reason. Can you think of a time when you made it through a seemingly impossible situation? That is proof that there is nothing to fear, worry about, or be anxious for.

8 —

Give grace.

One day you might be feeling unstoppable and the next day you might feel less courageous. Some days you won’t get everything done. That’s okay. Commit to loving yourself through every season and circumstance by being gentle with yourself. And make sure to extend that same grace to others.

9 —

Let go of toxic behaviors and relationships.

Reflect on any relationships or patterns that do not bring out the best in you, and adjust accordingly. Sometimes that means setting boundaries, and other times that means taking a look in the mirror and being real about what you might be doing to stand in your own way. Taking a step back to assess your own habits and patterns will help you understand the relationships you have with those around you.

10 —

Treat yourself.

Whether that is buying a new lip color or taking yourself out to dinner, make it a habit to celebrate who you are and how far you’ve come. During the journey of life, it can sometimes feel like there is so much progress still to be made, but when you take a moment to consider how far you’ve come, you will realize that’s worth celebrating.
