A Simple Way to Appreciate Your Body Today
Our bodies constantly change throughout life and these milestones impact both our bodies and minds. Puberty, getting our period, dealing with hormones, having babies, stretch marks, menopause, and the list goes on - the point is our bodies and feelings toward them have a tendency to change with time.
Let me ask you a question: when is the last time you looked in the mirror and said uplifting words to your body?
In a study conducted by Psychology Today, 56% of women said they were dissatisfied with their overall appearance. And I don’t know about you, but I can relate.
As a mom with 3 births under her belt (or uterus), there are certain parts of my body that … are not my favorite. Social media trends, like the #10YearChallenge, bring back memories of how my body used to be, the clothes I used to wear, and the confidence I once carried.
So I want to encourage you as I encourage myself: we should give our body gratitude for bringing forth life, walking down the grocery store aisles, giving a nice foundation to sit at our favorite brunch spot, taking us to vacations, everything!
Join me in this challenge to begin appreciating yourself and acknowledging your worth.
1 —
Write down the different parts of your body on separate pieces of paper and place them in a jar.
You may intentionally select parts of you that need some extra TLC or ones that you want to learn to appreciate more!
2 —
Everyday, choose a body part out of the jar and speak life into it.
Speak uplifting words and give thanks for experiences that have shaped you to this day.
Here’s an example of what I spoke to myself on thigh day:
Thank you thighs for helping carry my 3 beautiful babies and for the stretch marks that remind me of the miraculous sacrifice given to get them here. You’ve walked me through monumental times. You were strong through those crazy track practices in high school and took me to every college class, even through the rain and cold. You have carried me so far and I love you for that!
3 —
Unfollow social media accounts that trigger feelings of comparison, lust or jealousy.
The point is to appreciate who you are and realize your lane is your own. You are unmatched and cannot be compared to others, therefore, we are ending that cycle now.
