9 Self Care Ideas for Any Day of the Week
Self care is not just for Sunday! The truth is we need to practice wellness habits daily in order to be our best selves. This impacts not only how we show up for ourselves, but also for our families and communities.
Read on for 9 self care ideas that will energize and restore you from the inside out.
1. Go outside and breathe fresh air
Even if you aren’t particularly a nature lover, breathing fresh air has its benefits, from releasing toxins to soaking up vitamin D from the sun. Not only that, but being outside and connecting with nature can be extremely grounding, especially if you feel stressed or overwhelmed.
2. Eat something green
This isn’t something that you don’t already know, but your body needs the proper nutrients in order to thrive. Make it a habit to eat something green on a daily basis. If you’re not a salad lover, try fruits and veggies like cucumbers, zucchini, celery, avocado, even apples and grapes.
Pro tip: add juicing to your daily regimen for an energy boost and easy way to get your greens in. If straight celery juice isn’t your thing, try fruit and veggie blends like cucumber and apple.
3. Learn something new
Learning isn’t often thought of as self care, but it feeds the soul in a unique way that can help you be more productive toward accomplishing your goals. Make it a habit to read a new book or take an online course over a period of time. Even if you only have 20 minutes per day, this habit will pay off in more ways than one.
4. Say affirmations while doing your beauty routine
Your skincare and makeup rituals can become more therapeutic if you look at yourself in the mirror and say affirmations while doing your routines. Be present in the moment and quiet your mind by focusing on the way your skin feels and what you love about yourself. This sets the tone for you to feel empowered at both the start and the end of the day.
5. Do something active
Whether that is dancing your heart out, going for a walk, running, or marching in place on your lunch break, moving your body is a great way to feel more connected to yourself. Start where you can and release the pressure to perform. Focus instead on appreciating your body’s journey and embracing how she wants to move in this season.
6. Write it in a journal
If you need to decompress and let feelings out from the day or do a brain dump because of your long to do list, writing things out can be a practical way to release what is in your mind so that you can move forward.
7. Spend time in prayer
Prayer is a powerful way to release worry and cover not only yourself but also your family and community. With so much going on in the world, it can seem like we are powerless, but there is power in prayer.
Bonus tip: connect with a group of friends for Bible Study for spiritual accountability if you find yourself struggling to keep the faith through circumstances.
8. Rest and unplug
Setting boundaries for your day begins with understanding that rest is necessary each day so that our body can restore itself. Work and other to do items will always be there, but you only have one body. Take care of her and get the rest you need each day.
Unplugging also includes turning off any news or stopping the scroll when you feel triggered by current events or have been staring at the screen for too long.
9. Clean up your space
Cleaning up can be therapeutic in more ways than one. Not only does a clean space help with maintaining the proper mindset and focus, but something about the act of cleaning, for me, feels like I am also getting my life in order. In addition, small habits like making the bed as soon as you get up and straightening up your workspace or office at the end of each day also make a big difference and set the tone for the next day.
