How To Transition Your Makeup Routine for Summer

When it comes to a new season, switching up your makeup is essential, especially if you live in a place where the climate tends to get extremely dry, hot or humid.

Now that doesn’t mean you have to scrap your whole beauty routine, but there are a few key adjustments you can make that your skin will thank you for.

Less is more.

Even if you don’t live in a particularly hot climate, there is nothing worse than feeling sticky and weighed down with products in the summer.

Swap out heavy, cream based moisturizers for a lighter beauty oil or serum. And when it comes to makeup, don’t be afraid to let your real skin shine through. Try a tinted moisturizer or highlight with your favorite Liplove and keep it moving.

Don’t skip SPF.

Protecting your skin from sun damage is key all year round, but especially in the summer. Along these same lines, stay in the shade as much as possible and be sure to stay hydrated.

Pro tip: opt for a moisturizer with built in SPF to minimize the steps and products in your beauty routine.

And that brings us to our next tip…

It’s never okay to skip moisturizer.

Even if your skin is oily and you’re going outside and expect to sweat, you still need to moisturize.

A solid moisturizer will protect the outermost layer of skin from harmful pollutants and chemicals in the air. It will also prevent your skin from becoming dry or irritated with the seasonal changes.

Check your labels for ingredients that won’t clog your pores.

Makeup can sometimes be the main culprit when it comes to ingredients that clog the pores and lead to breakouts. Look for noncomedogenic (non pore clogging) formulas or skip foundation and heavier products altogether.

Want a cheat sheet on what to avoid? Here’s a few:

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) is not only a pore clogger but a known skin irritant.

Lauric Acid is commonly found in many makeup products but is very comedogenic and will cause breakouts, even if you don’t have acne prone skin.

Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter are both also highly comedogenic and will clog pores, so resist the urge to slather them all over your body.

Isopropyl Palmitate is mostly found in tinted moisturizers but is ranked a 4 on the comedogenic scale, so it is very likely to cause pimples on acne prone skin.

Speaking of ingredients, vitamin C is a must.

Vitamin C should be included in your skincare routine year round, but it is especially important in the summer.

The benefits are many: vitamin C helps prevent hyperpigmentation, aids in collagen production and can help improve the appearance of fine lines.

Adding vitamin C to your beauty routine can be as simple as adding a few drops on your skin between cleansing and moisturizing.

Master the 5 minute face to look and feel your best

All in all, summer is about creating more memories, not spending forever on complicated beauty routines. So the main takeaway: keep it simple.

Cleanse, moisturize, do a quick Liplove look, then go cherish the summer moments with the people you love.
