7 Wellness Habits for Glowing Skin

Real beauty radiates from within. If you want to feel good throughout the day, with more confidence and focus, developing a daily wellness routine is key. It will take effort and consistency (there are no shortcuts!), but you will come out stronger. Ready to get your glow on? Keep reading.

1. Eat (or drink) your greens.

There’s no way around it: you are what you eat. Now that’s not to say you can’t have a treat when you want or that you have to skip dessert. It does mean that you need to balance dessert with vegetables, bonus if they are leafy and green. Short on time? Try juicing blends like celery, cucumber and kale which contain beneficial antioxidants and can help you stay hydrated.

2. Create a lifestyle that includes physical activity on a daily basis.

Physical activity is known to improve blood circulation and promote the production of new skin cells, which are key to glowing skin. Sweating also removes the toxins from your body which also improves the vibrance of the skin.

Now before you go hitting the trails or paying for a gym membership, remember to take your lifestyle and habits into consideration, and start where you are. Physical activity can be going for a walk every evening, or, if you are already an active work out queen, then challenge yourself in that area. And it’s okay if this changes with time!

For example, I used to despise running, until a couple years back, I set a goal to become a runner. Something about being in my 30s and wanting to reach new levels of physical wellness inspired me to start hitting the trails in my neighborhood. I was also bored with my usual elliptical workout and wanted to push myself to do more. Now when I first started running, I could barely make it up the block without walking, but now, I actively run on a daily basis and it brings me joy to do so.

The key takeaway is find what works for you, and it’s okay if that changes with time. I went from not going to the gym consistently in my 20s, to creating a workout routine and sticking with it, to challenging myself to become a runner, to showing up day after day, even when I wasn’t in shape.

This was a process that happened over several years and it took a lot of conditioning aka work.

3. Drink water throughout the day.

The benefits of drinking water are many: it flushes out the digestive system, helps maintain moisture in the skin (buh-bye dry skin), reduces the size of pores (decreasing the likelihood of acne caused by clogged pores), and it even delivers nutrients to your skin cells.

Instead of guzzling a bottle of water and then going the rest of the day on sugary drinks and sweets, try filling up a large canteen to carry with you. Again, the key here is starting where you are. There was a point in time where I couldn’t imagine not drinking juice, coffee and everything but water all day long, and now, I mostly drink water and tea throughout the day.

Take an honest assessment of where you are and set small goals to reach for, with the end result being a lifestyle of healthier habits, not an overnight change with little lasting results.

4. Create a wellness routine that works for you.

Any routine is what you make it, so be sure to take into consideration your habits and needs when it comes to your wellness routine. Look within before you start shaping the external practices. Where does your wellness routine need to be focused?

So many of my daily disciplines have come from first evaluating internally who I am and what my goals are.

Another thing to remember is small habits lead to big changes. Showing up for yourself in the smallest ways builds momentum, and before you know it, your entire life will begin to reflect your deepest love for yourself on every level.

5. Give yourself grace.

Just like with anything, give yourself grace. Choose to focus on what is working, and think kind, uplifting thoughts toward yourself, even on days when you don’t get it all right. Remember: this is about endurance more than it is about checking items off a list. The idea is to build habits and adapt throughout your lifetime.

6. Stop stressing.

Seriously, just stop. It causes breakouts and isn’t worth it in the end.

(Okay, I don’t know how scientific that one is but why stress about anything?! Focus on what you can change and take it step by step.)

7. Let go.

Choose what brings you joy and let go of everything else. Your wellness routine should create space for you to discover yourself and your body in a new way, so that you become more mindful all around. So embrace the process, don’t worry about who’s watching, and do everything you can to take care of your beautiful temple.
