3 Daily Habits for Loving Yourself Through Every Season

This is the second in a series of articles exploring true beauty by Liplove founder Latrice Love. Read the first article here.

For most of my life, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with my skin. I never struggled with acne, but dark spots, hyperpigmentation, fuzzy hairs on my chin and hormonal breakouts have all been things I have had to battle with. Add the pressure of being a beauty brand founder and the obsession with perfectly dewy, glowing skin increases. Then, add to that an alarming chat with a doctor who told me that PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) could be the culprit for many of the skin and hormonal issues I have struggled with for years and I just about lost it.

See I’ve always been the type of woman who had it all together. I could oil cleanse my way through a breakout, wear a little more makeup on days when I didn’t feel 100% and if all else failed, filters didn’t. But now, as I consider what I really need (spoiler: it’s not more makeup and definitely not another filter), I’m forced to examine my relationship with myself and my skin through a new lens.

If you’re reading this and rediscovering what it means to love yourself at a new stage of your life, you’re not alone.

Our bodies and lives change just like the seasons, so why should we treat them as if they are the same bodies we knew years, months or even weeks ago? I’ve had to come to the realization that through all the changes, I can still love, honor and respect my body because she is only getting better with time, and finding new ways to communicate with me!

Here are 3 things to do daily to love ypurself through every season:

1 —

Think beautiful thoughts about yourself.

Looking in the mirror and getting ready used to be the time of day where I would focus mostly on what I wanted to change, dark spots I needed to cover up, and the list goes on and on and on. Now, I make it a habit to look in the mirror and appreciate my features, and I encourage you to do the same. This small habit of building myself up rather than tearing myself down has put so much into perspective on this journey.

2 —

Wear natural-looking makeup (buh-bye concealer, heavy foundation, primer, and all the heavy products)

I’m not a heavy makeup wearer anyway, but it has been extremely refreshing to let go of all the beauty items that make my skin look radically different than she does when I’m makeup free. My go-to products after cleansing are: a beauty oil, followed by Liplove as highlight and lip color. That’s it! Takes about 30 seconds and makes me feel naturally beautiful so it’s a win-win.

3 —

Unfollow accounts that make you feel like you aren’t beautiful just the way you are.

It can be tempting to follow makeup and beauty creators that lay it on thick when it comes to makeup, but the reality is that I want to see more ladies in their natural element. Does that mean I don’t enjoy viewing the intricate makeup routines? Not at all. It’s just that personally, it is a bit triggering for me to see the full face makeup routines and I noticed what it was doing to my perception of my own makeup routine. Moral of the story: unfollow anyone that you notice causes you to feel less than the beautiful queen that you are.
